Resurrection ALWAYS refers to the reunion of the physical body with the souls of the departed. The Bible clearly distinguishes between a 1st & 2nd resurrection. Jesus said, “All that are in the graves shall hear His voice, and shall come forth: they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation” – Jn. 5:28-29. When the dead are raised, not all will be raised at the same TIME nor in the same CONDITION. There are over 70 references throughout scripture to the departed being in a state of SLUMBER awaiting their resurrection. With such an incredible list of biblical passages, why is it that the majority of Christian dogma rejects the concept of ‘soul-sleep’ for those currently in an intermediate state, the resurrection a yet future event? Are they spirits living now AWAKE in a completely spiritual realm? If so, what would be the reason for re-uniting them with their physical bodies at the resurrection, if the future kingdom of God is not also a physical realm? Please cite scripture with your ANSWER.
