What Is Meta Data of a Site and how important is that for Site promotion ?

There is a site that i submitted for Indexing, and i was then ask to provide the Meta data for that site.
The Web page itself is an affiliate link, it is not my personal website, i am just an affiliate member of the site.
And apart from that i do not know how to locate the meta data in a site.
