According to scripture, Christ’s motivation for dying on the cross was ostensibly LOVE (“for God so LOVED the world...” - "greater LOVE than this has no man..."). Love is hard to subjectively define, especially when considered from a purely emotional level. More objectively, love is the state of mind where one places another person’s interests above their own, thus making it the pinnacle of emotions – where one's sole incentive is to assist, edify, & support someone else. But God's love is far more altruistic. Christ’s incentive was taking our suffering upon himself so that we could share an eternity in glory with him. Considering such an ultimate expression of love, where did the conventional picture of everlasting torment initiate? Is it in God's heart, who has revealed His will, that none should perish, but that all would come to repentance? Does scripture teach everlasting torment of the lost, or does it instead refer to & comment on teachings derived from non-scriptural sources? What doctrines do you embrace & are they completely consistent with scripture?
