The Miracles of the Wine

It is a surprising, yet wonderful thing that the Truth can still reveal to us new thoughts in Scripture, even after many years of study.

What has never occurred to me before is the significance of Jesus' first miracle, turning water into wine. Why did he intervene in something that was not his responsibility (apart from his mother asking him)? He was not ruler of the feast. I have just realised after all this time that Jesus' first miracle was tied in with one of his last acts.

Jesus provided wine for a wedding and so it could be enjoyed by those at the wedding feast. With his death, Jesus gave his life-blood, symbolised by wine, so that we, In God's mercy may enjoy the wedding feast when Christ returns to his Kingdom.

Thus the miracles of the wine act as "book-ends" encompassing Christ's ministry while on earth.
