Pick and Pole Axe

Two axemen were working in the forest; we shall call them Pick and Pole.

Pole said to Pick, let's have a tree-felling competition: the person who fells the most trees in four hours wins. Pick agrees and they both set to. Pole is hewing furiously, barely pausing for breath. Pick, on the other hand is stopping regularly. Pole reckons he has this competition in the bag, but at the end of the allotted time, he is astonished to see that Pick has cut down several more trees. "How can that be, when you were stopping all the time?" He complained. "I wasn't just stopping", replied Pick "I was sharpening my axe".

[Ecc 10:10 NASB] 10 If the axe is dull and he does not sharpen its edge, then he must exert more strength. Wisdom has the advantage of giving success.

What is our axe? If it is our faith and spiritual wisdom, then we can see how things, even as simple as going to the meeting, are so much easier when our faith is sharp. Even when doing work for the Truth, we perhaps need to take the time occasionally to check that our faith remains sharp. How do we sharpen our faith? Well, Proverbs 27:17 [NASB] says 17 " Iron sharpens iron,So one man sharpens another". By regularly being with brothers and sisters and opening the Word together, it helps us to remain "sharp"!
