On September 1, 1983 the Soviets shot down a civilian airliner over international waters after it strayed for hours over Soviet airspace in Kamchatka and Sachalin. Aboard Korean Air Lines flight 007 were 269 people. The most prominent passenger was US Congressman Lawrence Patton McDonald how was president of the John Birch Society. McDonald was a Democrat from Georgia.
It was a Boeing 747-200 that was easily recognizable to the Soviet enemy that this was not a military jet but a civilian airliner. The Soviets trailed the jet for hours and shot it down when it was leaving Soviet airspace and nearing Japan. The shootdown occured over international waters near the island of Moneron. However, the plane did not explode. The Soviet people were shocked to see that the 747 kept flying after the first missile hit. They fired again after a while. The plane slowly descended in a circular fashion.
After the plane crashed on the ocean waters near the island of Moneron the Soviets were quick to block access to any ships of the international community. They quickly rescued what they could but they have been hiding freom the international community what they found. Survivors? Plane wreckage? A cockpit voice recorder was returned in 1991 but it was tampered with and did not include the last 10 minutes of the flight. The last remarks on the recorder was a confirmation that the pilots stabilized the plane after the missiles hit.
What does Putin know about this atrocity against humanity?
