Did God lie?

When Adam and Eve were in the garden of Eden, God commanded them thus "of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt "surely" die Gen 2:17." but when they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they appeared to be very much alive, conscious and aware of their previously concealed nakedness. In fact, they could still hear God and respond to His questions and we all know that dead people cant hear or respond to questions. So my questions are Did God lie when He told Adam and Eve that they would die if they ate of the fruit of the forbidden tree? , did He intentionally mislead them into thinking that they would die if they ate from the forbidden fruit in order to prevent them from having their eyes open and becoming god like just like the serpent suggested? Your answers are appreciated.

A proper understanding of who we are and what death really means would make it clear to us that God did "not lie when he told Adam and Eve that they would die in the day that they ate of the forbidden fruit. Jesus asks "what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul?" Eze 18:20 tells us that the soul (not the body or the flesh) that sins shall die. Man is not body. Man is soul. We are spiritual souls who inhabit temporal human bodies of flesh and blood. Our bodies serve as temporal clothings or coverings to our souls i.e who we really are while we exist in this world of sin, space and time. (Job 10:11)

Genesis 2:7 tells us that when God breathed the breathe of "life" into man, he became a "living" soul. The Bible calls the tree approved of God in the Garden the tree of "life" Jesus refers to Himself as the breath of "life". The Bible tells us thus of Jesus "..in Him was life and the life was the light of all men."

It also tells us that eternal life (i.e Jesus) which was with the Father was made manifest to us. Jesus is the life or breath of the soul or in simpler terms, the breath that gives life to the soul or the self. In the natural world we breathe in oxygen in order to survive, In the Spiritual world, we need to breathe in Jesus (the eternal spirit that comes from the Father) into our souls in order to live.

When God told Adam and Eve that they would die in the day that they rebelled against His commandment, He was referring to the death of their souls ( their true selves.) We saw that Man was referred to as a living soul when God breathed the breath of life into Him. Man with breath is alive. Man without breath or Spirit is dead to God and the spiritual (real) sphere. In the natural world, when we die, we cease breathing and become unconscious of our surroundings.

It is the same with the spiritual world. When our souls die to breath (i.e Christ who is our life) we become unconscious of the spiritual realm and who we are meant to be spiritually. Death is to be unaware of your fate as a soul without Christ and this is the reason why we are naturally body or material conscious while we are in this world of death and sin.

We cant see outside the 5 sense realm. Like Adam and Eve after the fall, we lose sight of God our covering and We are only conscious of our naked and empty selves. Everything we see and know is filtered through our (flesh) 5 senses. Anything that is beyond our five sense reality is termed as superstition. Strangely, we are only conscious of ourselves as temporal fleshy bodies instead of the souls that we truly are .

The forbidden tree knowledge aka the knowledge of this world of sin or the satanic/serpent knowledge is death which is why the Bible tells us to be carnally minded "is death." (not to be carnally minded leads to death) Eph 2:1 "And you hath he quickened, who were "dead" in trespasses and sins;" You are dead (not you are going to die) when you are in sin. To know sin is to become unconscious of God who is the life of your soul.

To see this life as all there is and to lose sight of God's eternal life is to be dead which is why Col 3:1 tells us "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God." If you are alive, you will seek the things above, the things in Eden. Col 3: 2 "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."

If you are alive, your affection would be focused on things above and not on things on the earth i.e this world, your body and its lusts. You are alive to the extent that you are conscious of yourself as a dead soul who has appropriated Christ. You are dead to the extent that you are unconscious of yourself as a dead soul in need of Christ.

We are supposed to be spirit souls ( living souls). i.e souls given life by the indwelling Breath/Spirit of God who is Christ (Gen 2:7) To repent and appropriate Christ is to become situated in that identity. To reject Christ and hold unto our own worldview i.e our own fleshy ways/perceptions is death.Like God said, Adam and Eve died in the very day that they ate from the forbidden fruit and this is reflected in their becoming conscious of their previously concealed nakedness i.e their selves.

To be conscious of ourselves and our way is death. To be unconscious of our own nakedness by appropriating Christ our covering is life. To be alive is to see things as Christ sees them and to stop holding unto our delusions of being naked and empty when he is there with us. When God says You will die, He means the soul will die. . But we in our death identify with our bodies, which is the source of our bondage. We identify with the pleasures they give us and and ig

...nore the need to realize the death of who we really are.We are not physical bodies. The so called life in our body is temporal. Its pleasures are temporal But the life and pleasure that God wants to offer our true self is eternal. Our bodies were given to us to experience this world of sin. but we must understand that we are souls in need of CHRIST OUR LIFE. That is the only path towards eternal life

Colossians 2:13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,

John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on them.

John 17:3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

Nice verses @glorybound9876 . When we are in sin we are dead. When we reject i.e refuse to believe in Christ we are dead (not we are going to die) Eternal life is to know Jesus right now.

God did NOT lie.
God NEVER lies.
When God told Adam and Eve that they would die He meant dying more than just one way.
The moment Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit they lost eternal life, and received eternal death, and so they died Spiritually IMMEDIATELY the moment they ate the forbidden fruit.
Adam and Eve were physically immortal until they ate the forbidden fruit.
And, the evidence for this is both Adam and Eve eventually died physically.
So, Adam and Eve died both Spiritually and Physically the moment they ate that forbidden fruit.

I would have to agree with you 100 percent. God is the God of truth and he does what he say and Jesus is the mediator between God and man.

God didn't lie, but He obviously meant having to leave the Garden of Eden, where a physical death had never taken place. Outside of the garden physical death occurs, so both Adam and Eve died two different types of death, one being the loss of eternal happiness and the other a loss of life itself.

No God did NOT lie. Here is the reason for that.
2 Peter 3:8King James Version (KJV)

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

They would die but not right away on our same day of time.

When they had to leave the Garden of Eden they became mortal beings and started to die as we all do now. God did not lie. Some of us die young now and some old but we are all dying. We need to learn the great lesson from their mistake and that is to Obey God Almighty!

@DEN 14. I'm gonna have to disagree with you a bit when you write "They would die but not right away on our same day of time." God said thus to Adam "in the day" that thou eat thereof thou shalt "surely" die Gen 2:17. If it is true that Adam and Eve did not die on our same day of time or right away then it means that God lied. Adam and Eve died in the same day like God claimed and this reflected in their becoming conscious of their nakedness which happened "immediately" they ate from the fruit

Im also gonna disagree "a bit" with you when you write "Yes they died spiritually and also physically". God did "not" make man to be a physical being. He made him to be a spiritual being. The bible tells us to be carnally or physically minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Man is abstract soul. Man is not physical body. You are right when you claim that man died spiritually. But man didn't die physically. On the contrary, man became alive (or aware) physically

To the things of God i.e the Spirit he became as dead as stone which is reflected in His losing sight of God as the covering of his previously concealed nakedness and to the things of the self and the physical, he became alive and conscious which is reflected in his being conscious of himself and the clothing of skins i.e the physical/material clothings that God used to cover Him.
