Where can I find leads for people looking to buy photographs?
I have a website for which I am selling photographs and accessories like throw pillows, shower curtains, canvas prints and more. I have done social marketing like facebook and twitter but have not gotten the response I had hope for. Is there another way of getting people's attention other than spending huge money on advertising?
There is a possible venue for your skills. From what you describe, you seem to already master well objects photography. I happen to be a member of a group of Amazon sellers on Facebook, and recently, several members have asked where they can turn to to have their catalog pictures shot. A quick search showed there is probably need for a service to people who sell online.
Let me ask you this, are you selling via Amazon?
If yes, how has your experience been selling via Amazon? From what I have heard, they really do not give a hoot about Small business sellers. And they always put their own Merchandise and Merchants ahead of Small businesses. Have you run into this?
Full disclosure : I am essentially selling software, through the Apple App Store, The Amazon App Store, and the Windows Store. I also do distribute a few gadgets.
I use to compare them to aircraft carriers on a sea of business, and me, well, if I am small sardine, I'll be in luck. In a way, even the best Amazon sellers are nothing but small fish. Not nice, but true.
Once you are conscious about that fact, you find that Amazon is fair with it's extremely numerous vendors. Now, it is a market.
Any market like that is highly competitive. Meaning everything goes on. Merchants try to steal customers from each other in not always very nice ways, and beware the naive newbie. When there are several merchants selling the same thing, the lowest price wins it all. Seems good for the consumer, but it is a nightmare for merchants. All in all, selling on Amazon is neither worse nor better than any other market. What is nice is that Amazon has a huge momentum of customers. Good for all.
I think you said it well, by: "Amazon sellers are nothing but small fish"
And you know what happens to Small Fish, they get eaten by Bigger Fish :)
Great for Amazon (Wall Street), I think not so great for us "small fish" :(
OTN, that is why I like this Anoox so much, since it is the only non-profit non-wall street based network i have found that is all about us "small fish", as they do not even accept Advertising from Big (Wall Street) Fish.
As son and grand son of photographer, quite versed into photography myself, I should say that I have never seen so many good photography around that since Internet 2.00.
That means you are not in a market of scarcity, which makes it even more difficult to sell your stuff.
I went to your site. Nice. May I recommend you place a watermark on your pictures ASAP. Otherwise people will just download from images.google.com and never bother visiting your site.
Then go through the motions with search engines to have your site indexed and searchable. As a minimum, submit it for free through http://www.freewebsubmission.com/ which I have used to index mys sites and let me discover Anoox in the process.
I don't know if that is possible on fineartamerica, but your page is lacking a buy button. Get yourself an account at Paypal.com to be able to sell your stuff directly.
Then, seems to me I would contact shutterstock.com, 123RF.com and others who are prominent photo stores.
Go to images.google.com and look at the way pictures are watermarked. Usually, with text in a semi-transparent color. Shutterstock does that for instance. I guess it can be done with Photoshop, or Paint.Net, which can be downloaded for free from getpaint.net.
Mitch, I do not like Google stuff since they are so convoluted and generally difficult to navigate. I checked out this getpaint.net and it seems pretty good image editor. Seems like good replace for Gimp I been using. Thanks.

Well barista, you've done the work for me but I didn't even know that my email was in the message...
I use Kaspersky Password Manager and maybe it got in the comment automatically, I'm also new to this platform so it can happen that I make a mistake so I don't think it's fair to report me as a spammer with the first thing I do wrong and it's not something that would normally do.
I don't think Ricardo meant any harm. Ease up, we're all human here & things happen. Let's move on & if you could tell me where I should have uploaded a picture that would be great. The only reason I left out my link when I asked my question was that I thought that you couldn't do that. Than when you replied that I should have attached a picture.I replied with my link that has my pictures there? But now I understand I shouldn't do that?
Let's help not badger, isn't that why we're here?
Thanks for backing me up easyworker you're the best...
Yesterday I've done a ton of work here on the Anoox platform and I would be very sad if all that would be for nothing because I made a booboo.
Just for you to know I've written 39 reviews for the websites listed because nobody else is doing that, I've added 12 new blog posts, put the social share button on my website, I wrote 10 answers and a couple more things to go the extra mile, I believe that would be enough for one day right?
Ricardo & easyworker. I am with you guys. That is I have found out that the more that I put into this Anoox network, the more I get back in connections and new ideas. I wish more people were as active as we are, that would make this non-profit so much so the better for all our benefits. Cheers mates :)
The answer is staring you in the eyes! That is if you want lots of Traffic for your Website without spending huge money on Google, etc. Wall Street Media based advertising, then you realize that your only choice for low cost advertising is this Anoox non-profit social search network. We realized this a while back and have never looked back. So to be exact, if you have Multi Million Dollar advertising budget, then Google, etc. Wall Street Media based advertising is great. OTOH, if you have a small business advertising budget, then you simply CANNOT beat this Anoox advertising since Anoox is the only non-profit social search network.
They have a great page explaining all this here:
Although I agree with your core message. I would like to add that this Anoox also gives us small businesses a great way for getting lots of Free Traffic, which is by answering other members questions and being helpful to other members, by helping to get the best answers and truth out.
Yes, exactly. If you have a huge advertising budget then Google is the place to go. OTOH, If you have a small business advertising budget then this ANOOX non profit social search engine is the best if not the only option. Since there is no other on profit social search engine like it. Well none that I have found. OTN, if you all find another non profit social search engine like this, please let us all know.
JJ, yes I know about Anoox free means for getting Free Traffic, based on sharing what we know and like. And I too think they are very cool. But I thought that easyworker was asking about the paid means for getting more Traffic. Also let me state that although Anoox free means for getting free traffic are really awesome, that if you want to get serious amount of traffic to your Site that the Paid Advertising is by far more traffic.
barista, agree. If you have Multi Million Dollar Advertising budget, that is you are Wall Street funded, then Google Wall Street based search engine is really best. OTOH since 99% of Small Businesses, or to be more exact 99.999% of small businesses, do not have Multi Million Dollar Advertising budgets, which means they are not Wall Street funded, then Anoox is a GOD sent for us since as the only non-profit search engine it is the only source for super low cost Advertising for us.
