Website ranking why do i keep slipping off page 1 to page 2

Why does my website keep slipping from page 1 of google to page 2 for my keyword i want to be ranked for, and i have to constantly change something on the home page, in order to get it back on to page 1.
I would like it to remain on page 1 with out having to constantly have to change something as it gets a bit tiring and confusing to why it keeps getting dropped every now and thenfor me to permantly keep it on first page
