It might be easier to signup for a free hosting account and building your website online. WordPress offers both the ability to build an online CMS (Content Management System) website and free hosting. That will give you some experience into both Website Building and Hosting. Google offers another package where you may build an HTML based website. That is simpler to host because you can FTP into your online hosting account and move the files into the proper bucket.

1) Sign up to a free web hosting service account.
*There are lot of out there, you can just google saying 'free web hosting'.
2)After creating the account they will provide you with a free sub-domain, a personal domain like yoursite.com will cost you. So use the sub-domain option.
3)You will then recieve a mail from the service provider about the usrername, password, ftp hostname, sql hostname etc. Use these to register your website and watch it live on the web.
4) You need to download ftp software. You can get the latest versions, just google. I use Filezilla.
5)After installing,Enter the username,ftp host-name,password in the respective
input tab and press on quickconnect button. This is a one time process and later you can start without re-entering the data as it will saved by pressing dropdown of the quickconnect button.
6)You will see a small section display on the screen with folder public_html,delete the default.php file and then upload your created html files.

You have several good offline suggestions here. If you want to fully develop on a local machine lookup a (free) product called XAMPP, it will turn your machine into a local (for your use) webserver. Lets you test all of the features before the world sees them. once working, send your entire htdocs folder contents to the public server via FTP. And while your page itself is the most important, don't forget to research and make a .htaccess file, a sitemap.xml file, and if you really want a complete solution create your own 404 error page.

You should just build. the pages offline using Adobe or Macromedia Dreamweaver - when you are ready to publish or upload the pages use Filezilla - just configure it with the ftp settings, username and password, then connect to the web server and upload your pages - in some cases you can also edit those pages while they are still online, but best to download a page or pages, make edits, and then re-upload. While working offline you can preview the pages in a browser and when they are live you can view them using Internet Explorer, Chrome or Mozilla. You can download Filezilla for free and create a site with the ftp settings. Then connect to and disconnect from the site. Dreamweaver is expensive and the best tool for developing web pages.

If you are purchasing a website name which is called domain then you can host websites on wordpress and blogger as well. Google wordpress and blogger for more information and you will get lot of ideas. These sites are quite user friendly and also have training videos which can help you step by step in creating your own website for free.

Thanks & Regards,

You can use Coffeee Cup HTML editor and other Coffee Cup softwares to create simple websites in HTML or PHP designer to create them in PHP. There are also free templates available online or you can go for open source options like wordpress and blogger.

Thanks & Regards,

I'm guessing that you want to build your site in Html since you said that you wanted to build your site in an offline software-program and since you said that your not an expert. Html is a good platform to start learning the basics of how a website works. Though there are many languages out there; html is one of the easiest. There are many great programs out there for building websites such as Dreamweaver (expensive); again I'm going to guess and say that's not the program you want to go for if you just want to learn the basics in the beginning. When it comes to choosing what free (or as close to free as possible) program to go for you have many options. Ill give you two of them:
For mac: iWeb
For windows: WebMatrix
Ftp: Filezilla.
Create the website (pages), open the ftp client of your choice and fill in host, password and what not and your good to go.
-Each program comes with a description on how to use them, so it should not be to difficult to learn how they work :)

Yes - I build websites for small businesses and do SEO in Washington DC - I always nowadays prefer HTML5 and CSS! With HTML you can about build or create anything, though it does take some know how!

I am also skilled on CMS platforms like Wordpress, which is online, but nothing beats an good HTML editor - Dreamweaver is the best and most all-encompassing,m and I am self taught over maybe two years! Still don't know how to do some things, but can research as I go sometimes.

If you are using Dreamweaver - it should have the functionality to FTP directly to your server. I would recommend using an FTP client instead of Dreamweaver, but its a personal call.

You'd go to your "Site > Manage Sites" and set up the advanced options (depending on your version of Dreamweaver) Highlight the site you need to modify or set up with the server info (for ftp via Dreamweaver) and you will need to click "Advanced Settings > Servers" and then add a new server.

This is where you'll need your ftp host (IP address or ftp.domain.com), the username and password as well as the port (default is generally 21). Then test the connection and you can "send" the files to the server directly. Again - - - personally, having used Dreamweaver for many years, I prefer Filezilla.

Yes - build in Dreamweaver - then use Filezilla which is compatible with all the major hosting solutions - also, GoDaddy sucks because you cannot upload folders - use Filezilla so you can transfer folders and files from your local computer to the web server.

As they say; All roads lead to Rome. You can pic any solution you want and in the end you will (hopefully end up where you want to be) :) I'm going to urge you to take your time and experiment with it. Dreamweaver is THE program to choose but its expensive but on the other hand as mypchost said; it do have an inbuilt fpt-client. But for a beginner i would recommend; iWeb (mac) and WebMatrix for windows (free to use) and for no cost they give you a pretty awesome tool for basic building.

Dreamweaver is the absolute best, and maybe take a two year program in it! I am a former IT expert, educator, and self thought on Dreamweaver - very good now, this is not for a novice unless you want to make a commitment. The best and all encompassing tool for whatever you want to build. Yo ualso need a good hosting provider with databases, access and some other tings depending on what it is you want build.

Dreamweaver is a tool to build web pages and websites - it used to be Macromedia Dreamweaver - now it is Adobe's long time premier tool for expert website designers. It is as complex as Microsoft Office can be, and more. Download, install, and build HTML pages or import templates ans "rip them" if you will - as I often do. Costs about $300.00 or more, but you can read the help guides and manuals - it can be easy to do simple things but is the most advanced and best tool there is.

The best tool is Adobe Dreamweaver where you can build HTML pages, PHP pages, and almost any other kind of page. Depending on the functions you need you may also have to custom build forms and such. After you build, and preview in a browser as you build, you login to a web hosting account and upload the files to the root directory of the web server - make sure your home page is index.html or index.php, or asp, or what have you. Point your domain to the web server and you are good to go!

Wordpress is an online option that is very good - building two for clients myself. I love Adobe Dreamweaver but it take a lots of knowledge, especially in terms of CSS.

1) Redirect your domain name to your server
2) Uplaod your files to your host, best program to do this is filezilla.
3) Create a php database
4) finally Upload your sql to your database.

Have you already designed the website or do you need to build it first?

Does your hosting provider give you FTP access? If yes, do you have an FTP program? Many are free, I'd recommend "filezilla" which is pretty simple to use and learn.
