Why does God care about humans?

We know that God cares about humans because of John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

But why does God care about humans? He is self sufficient. Humans cannot do anything for God that he cannot do for himself. He already knows everything (omniscient). So why would he want a personal relationship with us? He's omnipresent, Eternal, Infinite, Immutable...etc.
