It is estimated that 34K different denominations exist worldwide. Why so many, when Christ’s vision for His church was that it be “one” - Jn. 17:11,22? A common misconception is that “denominations” infers different “beliefs”, when in fact the term merely differentiates between separate independent “organizations”. The vast majority of denominations hold similar beliefs on these important tenants: the divine inspiration of scripture; the deity of Christ; salvation by grace not works. Although one may claim to be a Christian, they are clearly not “one” with all those who do believe these. When Jesus said, “I will build my church” - Mt. 16:18, was He referring to an “organization” or a living spiritual “organism”? Jesus said, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” – Jn. 3:3. What did Peter mean when he said, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives & abides forever” -1Pt. 1:23? Can one really be a Christian without “being born again”?
