Where does repentance fit in to Salvation?

I know what Repentance is. Repentance is the changing of one's mind about sin.

I know what Repentance isn't. It's NOT a work. And it's NOT about us living a sinless life. (Which isn't even possible).

So repentance is the result of salvation and not the requirement for Salvation.

So, my question is how do you clearly explain repentance to other people without confusing them?
