What happens when MySQL UPDATE is done on record that does not exist?
Topics:
, , SQL | MySQL
To be exact, what we want to do is to UPDATE a Table and if that record that we are UPDATing does not exist then get a MySQL error message about that and then INSERT that record.
So that we do not have to before hand check to see via a SELECT that this record exists so as to avoid 10s of 1000s of SELECTS per Hour.
Can this be done?
What sort of Error message will MySQL throw that we need to look for?
Thanks.
