Before leaving earth and ascending back into heaven Jesus gave what has come to be commonly referred to as The Great Commission. “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature”– Mk.16:15. What exactly is the “gospel” and are most Christians accurately preaching it? In scripture, there are four books called “gospel”. We know them as testimonies regarding Jesus Christ from four individual’s perspectives. Is it expected that each believer also present their ‘gospel” – a personal testimony of their experience and knowledge of Jesus Christ? I’m not referring to “another gospel” as warned against by Paul (2Co. 11:4; Gal. 1:6), but an accurate proclamation regarding our personal revelation of Christ. Also, to whom are we to preach? Obviously, it is to the lost, yet far too much preaching never leaves the four walls of most churches. Most preachers merely “preach to the choir”, instead of evangelizing in the world where the vast majority of sinners are!
