Scripture uses a unique term for a special group. Initially, the term ELECT refers to the Messiah, but was broadened to include many others. In the OT, the term is exclusive to the Book of Isaiah. The next time the term is cited is by Jesus in Matthew & Mark’s account of the Great Tribulation. There, it is said that the ELECT cannot be deceived (Mt.24:24, 31; Mk. 13:22, 27). In the NT the Greek term “eklektos” is translated as "elect" & “chosen”. Jesus said of this special group “Ye have not CHOSEN me, but I have CHOSEN you, and ordained you” – Jo. 15:16. In Jesus also said, "“For many are called, but few are CHOSEN” – Mt. 20:16; 22:14. In seventeen other NT passages the terms are used interchangeably & synonymously. So, who are the ELECT & what are the unique benefits bestowed upon them? Do you consider yourself among them?
