I recently watched a TV News report about the ASPCA pushing for legislation to ban rat poison, because it is cruel to rats. Obviously, no one is killing pet rats. The proposed ban would eliminate the legal use of current rat poisons on the market, that are being used to eliminate rat infestations.
I'm all for the prevention of cruelty to animals, but to cover disease ridden vermin is absurd!
They claim that not only does the poison affect the rats, but it causes other animals that eat the rat carcasses to become violently ill. While I consider that reason for deliberation over the matter, I also consider an unchecked rat population as a much more serious problem.
Not to be insensitive, but animals who get sick eating dead rats are collateral damage. Better a few sick animals than an ever growing infestation of rats!
