How does one get into Fashion business?
I have an idea for a new line of Swim Wear.
Something really sporty yet sexy.
I know where to get the Fabric & Make them.
But dont know how to get stores to carry them!
How does one get stores, specially big stores to carry a new line!
And I only have like $10,000 for Marketing
Start your line with a few designed products. After you have completed them take a few pictures and describe the item accurately. Important to Trade mark them for your protection. Then grow some sales of the item on Facebook, Twitter and sales thru say eBay. If you get the interest you expect then write a proposal of the items you would like to have made and picked up by future sourcing departments. But I am afraid not really real.
Are there companies that one can sign-up with whom would get a cut of the Sales for placing large orders and whom have the track record? This is what I am looking 4.
Partnering is one way you could build upon your business model. I am afraid that the fee’s would be high and the risk of your idea’s being infringed upon is great. All businesses today take a lot of effort. If you just want companies or Textile manufactures to see your designs and ideas you can go that wrought but it does have an industry risk of infringement and you could ultimately loose your edge for your designs.
Best case is to create a few of your idea’s and designs (on paper) and trade mark them. Now you can send them to manufactures of Women Swimwear products and see if they would like to buy your idea’s or designs. I still believe for the best chance of success is to try to continue with your designs and Idea’s and contact companies that may want to carry your line of Swimwear.
When you have sample swim wear ready, if there are any specific stores you want to carry your products, you can call their sales department and inform them of your product and ask if they can market the swim wear for you. Hopefully from there you can enter into a business partnership with them
Another option is to enroll in on line directory as a drop- shipper. Small on line retailers interested in selling your product may find you and contact you through the information you have in the drop-shipper directory. Though your goal is to have your products sold in big stores, since you are just trying to start your business, it will be a great a idea to grow your business with other small retailers who are also growing their own business. Let these small retailers sell/market your products, while you sew and at the same time do the drop shipping, in this way you may not need a very large capital to start off.
