Well of course 1st it is Google & Yahoo that are to be blamed: for their greed, for their need to justify their sky high stock prices, which of course could not be justified if they only remained in the search engine business. Also the Big media interests are to be blamed who have Hyped these two companies to unimaginable degrees, for both political and financial reasons. For example Timewarner-AOL has been, running one glowing article after another in their many media outlets, from Business Week to Fortune, etc., about how "Genius" and "Amazing" Google founders/company are while they have Billions of dollars of shares and other interests in Google and similarly in Yahoo. So they have every reason to Hype these search engine monopolies to make sure that you the people do not seek and use alternative search engines, which would result in your freedom of information and their loss of control over your minds and wallets.
But truth be told, it is we the People who are also to be blamed for having allowed the Big media to brain wash great many of us into believing that these handful of search engine monopolies are our only and best choice for finding information, for having allowed these search engine monopolies to take more and more of our freedom (of information) away in return for them giving us a few free services. But it is still not too late, we can still take the Web back, and have it be a source of the best information for us rather than a source of information controlled by a few search engine monopolies.
